Thelma: "I had a plan, I said we should go to the police, but you didn't like that."
Louise: "Well, what's the rush, Thelma? If we wait long enough, they'll come to us."
We got up as early as we could, which turned out to be 8.45, and headed out to see the Falls by day, and boy were we glad we did that. They were beautious in daylight, practically overwhelming, and we went so far, we could see them going down into the water. We'll try posting a video of that, I just don't know how to do it yet ;) For now there are pictures:
After that we got in the car and started another day of mostly driving - driving foh-evah-evah! Well, it took a while to get out of the falls because the Canada isn't nearly as good as marking roads and stuff as the America is. But we asked an old lady who was missing a front tooth for directions, and it turned out we were actually on the right track (cudos more to Vib than to me ;)). It took us about four hours to get to Sarnia (the American border), it took us another two hours of getting through customs and out of Canada, and our luggage was being thouroghly searched by a couple of officers as well, the Canadian police had it in for us I guess. They asked us why we had rented a car, why we drove through Canada, if we had any liqour in the car (as if I looked like somebody that would have her car full of alkohol), and so on and so forth. They finally let us go after asking Vib to pronounce her name (I was pointedly not asked) and to remover her sunglasses so they could check if she was the same person as in the passport.
The drive through Michigan was uneventful except for 6 road kills (poor animals), and horrible roads that even though they were lethal and full of holes, allowed a speed limit of 70 miles pr hour (!), fine by me. We had a wonderful dinner of spare ribs at Applebee's, where I phoned Mom for the first time really to give her a heads up on when we would arrive. She could actually tell us that instead of the other way around, and we were pleased to find out that we were only 2 and a half hours away from Suttons Bay :) We left Applebee's and I left all reception on my Norwegian phone behind at the same time, and haven't had reception since.
We drove through the gorgeous little town of Cadillac, MI, and were swept away by the most breathtaking sun set in life.
We got to Mom and Dad's house at 10.30 PM and, oh joy, it was good to see them again!!!!! Mom and I hugged forever while Dad gave Vib a warm welcome. It was so grrrrrrrreat to be home =D
Mom gave us sandwiches and Dad gave us ice cream and we went to bed after a not so quick catch up :) At that point the house contained Mom and Dad, Ele (my sister), Mat (her boyfriend), Jean (his mother) and the two of us.

I got up early to return the K-iiiah to Hertz, and Mom and Ele went with me to go by the mall afterwards, were I got an american phone so I would stop ruining my economy on international calls (OneCall mught be cheap in Norway, but over here I'm near bankruptcy because of them - maybe it was a good thing I lost my reception). Meanwhile Dad showed Vib the whole farm in a red pick-up truck. She liked it a lot :). Once we got back we headed to The Sleeping Bear dunes, a cool national park in MI. I love the dunes... I really wanted to run down the steep hills and climb 'em back up, but nobody (surprise) wanted to go with me, oh well! We got home, had delicious home made burgers and very tasty local wine (there are a lot of wineries around here!), went out for more ice cream (surprise ;)) and went to bed. By this time Colin (my brother), Alyssa (his wife) and Sarah (Ele's best friend) had arrived and the party was on!
Theme song august 7th: "Happy Birthday" by Stevie Wonder and "We Don't Need No Education" by Pink Floyd (The theme song of the class of 2000)

BIRTHDAYBIRTHDAYBIRTHDAY!!! I'm a SUCKER for birthdays =D and couldn't wait to let people know of course, so fifteen minutes to midnight I started to get excited ;) It was supah-nice! In the morning the rest of the peeps went to either Frankfurt or downtown Suttons Bay for an art festival. Vib and I got ready for my 10 years reunion with the high school class I attended when I was an exchange student. Mom had prepared an awesome "pass around"-dish for us to bring, but lo and behold, when Vib was upstairs for five minutes and I tried to do yoga for about 10, the dog (Colin and Alyssa's) ate half the thing and put her paw marks on the rest of it!
So we ended up being an hour late (surprise) for the reunion, which didn't matter because we weren't the only ones. It was great to see people again, surprisingly many of them remebered me, and we ended up eating, drinking beer and talking to people for a lot longer that I imagined, good times :) Vib took pictures of this with her magnificent speilrefleks-camera, so I'll just have to post them on facebook later on, as they are to big to download now.
Dad called us about 4.30 as he thought we would be finished by then, but were not. They had planned for a trip to one of the local wineries, and allready quite tipsy we hooked up with them for awesome wine tasting. True to my senior quote in the yearbook we had desert (aka Snicker Flurry at The Home of the Turtle (my favorite ice cream place in the world!)) before dinner.
Dinner (Mom's glorious quiche) was consumed with plenty of wine from the winery and there were lots of general excitement =D It was a different, very special and very good birthday, and true to my nature it will be celebrated more when I get back, hehe..
We'll be back on the road tomorrow, so we'll probably post again in a few days :) So long!
